Within the corporate sector it is possible to provide video conferencing apps for all staff and to be able to expect a minimum specification for all user computers. However in the research and education sector, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is the norm and there is no way to be able to control the user computers.
Expecting users to download and install software is therefore not practical for these groups and that is why WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) standards were developed.
Now any reasonably modern web browser (including tablets and Smartphones) can use eduMEET without the need to install software.
This approach reduces the impact on users and allows maximum compatibility across the community.
